I am an experienced early childhood educator and elementary school administrator—now budding as an educational researcher in early mathematics, spatial reasoning, and early childhood teaching practices. I am passionate about helping young children become proficient problems solvers and embrace being “math people.”
On this site, I share about my background, current research, and some general thoughts about the wild world of early math and early childhood education.
A teacher, educational leader, and researcher investigating how teachers are prepared to teach spatial reasoning to children in early childhood and elementary classrooms.
After teaching pre-kindergarten and early childhood special education classes for nine years, I earned my Master of Education degree in Education Policy and Leadership. I served as the assistant principal at the school in which I taught, but had questions about how children were learning about mathematics and spatial reasoning concepts.
Enter: Research. I completed my Ph.D. in spring 2023. I study early childhood mathematics education, specially how educators of young children teach spatial reasoning through mathematics.
